THE police in Lagos on Thursday arraigned three men, Anthony Okafor, Abiodun Fayomi and Akeem Jamiu before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing alozinc aluminium worth N9.753 million.

Okafor, 40, Fayomi, 39, and Jamiu,35, whose addresses were not provided, are facing charges of conspiracy, fraud and stealing to which they pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Christopher John, told the court that the trio committed the offences with some others still at large at No. 63/67, Alaguntan, Iyana-ipaja, Lagos, on February 5.

John said the defendants stole the aluminium belonging to the complainant, Ejike Enoch.

He said that the defendants bought the aluminium from the complainant and refused to pay him.

“The complainant reported the case to the police and the defendants were arrested,” the prosecutor said.

John said the offences contravened Sections 411, 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 prescribes three-year jail term for stealing, while Section 411 stipulates two years for conspiracy.

The Chief Magistrate, P. E. Nwaka, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with one surety each in like sum.

Nwaka adjourned the case until March 3 for mention.
