OSOGBO – Community and Social Development Project, (CSDP), Osun state, a community development agency, sought partnership with media men and their organisations in promoting its activities and programmes across the state.

The agency in conjunction with Osun state government, federal government and World Bank has since 2007 being financing community projects and programmes from counterpart funding provided by the two main donors.

In executing projects , the community would provide 10% of the total cost for the selected project while the agency donates 90% of the money for the project which is executed by the community themselves and monitored by the agency. Speaking at a two -day training and sensitization workshop for newsmen including prints, broadcast and online reporters, the General Manager of the agency, Mrs. Funmi Abokede stressed the need for journalists to partner with the agency in promoting its activities and programmes for its sustainability, community growth and development.

Abokede commended Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola for his passion for community growth and development. He thanked the governor for his support to the agency despite paucity of funds. She also appreciated the World Bank for the trust and support, promising to ensure further effective utilization of the funds. Briefing the participants on the motive of the training, the general manager said the agency has in its ten years of existence, contributed towards development of several communities in the thirty local government areas of the state and therefore sought partnership with the media to project their activities to the world. She explained that the agency organized the training in order to present language of operation of the agency.

She further emphasized that the agency gives only 90 percent counterpart funding to communities to execute and implement projects, adding that Osun CSDP does not implement projects. Speaking further on the aims of CSDP, Abokede said that the agency is saddled with the responsibility of assisting participating communities to develop and implement their developmental plans. According to her, CDP is Community Development Plan, within a community and contains a portfolio of micro-projects.
